History: The Early Christians [33-500AD]

The Early Martyrs

Why would a 22-year-old mother die for her Christian faith? Why would anyone die for their faith? In this video, we explore the stories of some of the first Christian Martyrs recorded by the Early Church. We step into the amphitheatre of Carthage and Smyrna and hear the stories of the Christians who refused to renounce their faith and were killed for it. We also explore how the martyrs and the early Church understood ‘martyrdom’ as a concept – what did they believe they were actually doing in the arena? Why did they think they were actually winning when they died? Watch this video.
